[2002-10-06] Multi-threaded Download Accelerator policy
There were some people who think that it's alright to spawn 50 simultaneous threads to download the RedHat CD images. This is extremely bad netiquette, and kills the server. The server now runs mod_limitipconn to limit the number of concurrent connections to 2 when downloading .iso file. Any further attempts will get a 503 page. Unfortunately, these people run badly designed download clients that repeatedly request the files after getting a 503 error, filling up log files and causing undue load on the server. As a result, their IPs are now blocked at the kernel level.
When downloading large files, do not use IE! Use a good download manager that does not open too many connections
